7:00 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 26, March 12 & 26, and April 9

Catholics encounter Scripture during Sunday Mass. On most Sundays, four Scripture passages are proclaimed or sung: an Old Testament reading, a Responsorial Psalm, a New Testament passage (usually from Paul), and a passage from one of the Gospels. During weekday Masses, there is a similar pattern, except there are only three readings.

• How did this pattern develop?
• Why are certain passages read and not others? 
• How do the three or four readings relate to one another?

The Bible in the Lectionary will consider these and other questions.
